The benefits of journalling

Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.
— William Wordsworth

If you follow any of my social channels (find me on Instagram and LinkedIn), or subscribe to my weekly newsletter, you’ll probably already know that I’m a big fan of journalling.

I’ve been journalling for years, in one form or another. It’s a great way to reflect a bit more deeply on my own thoughts and feelings, which really helps me to make sense of whatever is happening in my life at that time. Writing things down opens the door to valuable insights (which I can’t always find elsewhere) and helps me to see the path ahead more clearly, especially during times of change when things can feel chaotic and overwhelming.

If you’re looking for more clarity in your life, then I can’t recommend journalling highly enough. It can help you to:

  • Organise your thoughts

  • Identify patterns and themes in your behaviour over time

  • Reflect on your personal development

  • Understand how you’re feeling

  • Ultimately, take control of the choices you are making in your life.

If you’re interested in learning more, then check out my blog on how to get started with journalling.

One of the best things about journaling is that you can’t get it wrong; whether you write twenty pages at a time, or start by jotting down random words with no apparent meaning, it doesn’t matter! The act of taking some time out - even if it’s just ten minutes each day - will help you focus on you and start reconnecting with yourself.

My book, Untangled: a practical and inspirational guide to change we choose and change we don’t, out on 28 November, contains a detailed guide to journalling, including useful tips on topics to explore as well as a range of journalling prompts. The book comes with a gorgeous companion journal, and together they can help you develop the skills you’ll need to thrive through change in your life. You can pre-order your copy of Untangled anywhere you usually buy your books online or in person.
